And So It Begins

Some weeks ago I was walking out of a meeting and down the hallway at work when a co-worker popped up next to me. She had started several months ago and we didn't work closely together so although I liked her, I'd only met her a handful of times.

"It's come to my attention that you're expecting," she says.

"Uhhhh."

"Yeah. I mean, I noticed that you were a few weeks ago and I just wanted to say congratulations!" she continues in a lovely, loud voice.

"You noticed? What do you mean you noticed?" I say, pulling my long cardigan a bit closer around me. At this point I'm a little confused. I mean, I could barely tell when I was dressed for work. How could she?

"Well, uh," and here she gestures to my chest, "those boobs? The ones that look like they could feed the whole world? They're kind of obvious."

Ahhhhh, and so it begins. So, feel free. Talk about my boobs. Apparently, my knocked up body is available for public comment.  Hooray!

  1. I am chuckling, out loud. At Starbucks. And people are staring at me. What can you expect, they were "enormous breasts" from the beginning. ;)

Really though, this whole thing irks me. Your body--regardless of the transformation its taking on--should NOT be available for public comment for crying out loud. How it is okay for people to be so damn intrusive and bold? I mean they did it with wedding stuff, as if a ring is a reason for folks to intrude into your personal decisions. And with the pregnancy business? I don't get it. Although I do look forward to when crazies touch your belly. I hear that's REALLY fun and I am already amused to think of your reaction. Ugh.

    On another note, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  5. Thanks, ladies!

@thebluemuse, I know. I'm already a bit shocked by the comments. And the if-you-don't-do-it-the-way-I-did-you're-wrong attitude.

@Marie, you did read right. And I have, in fact, always had pretty amazing (read: large) boobs. :)

  7. CONGRATULATIONS!! I don't know if you already told us and I missed it because I am a dummy, but this is so exciting! It is definitely weird that that woman was so presumptuous, but i'm glad that WE know now!
